Olive Crest of Nevada
Olive Crest is a not-for-profit (501c3) organization dedicated to preventing child abuse, treating and educating at-risk children, and preserving the family…One Life at a Time. ®
They expanded to Southern Nevada in 1996 as part of a larger organization out of Southern
California that was started 37 years ago. There are now Olive Crest
organizations in Washington, Nevada and Southern California.
In 1973, Dr. Donald and Lois Verleur took in four teenage girls and opened what they believed to be the first home for children in Orange County, California. Drawing from the olive tree in the front yard (an olive branch representing peace) and the idea of a family crest, Olive Crest, a name symbolizing “peaceful family,” was born.
Their primary goal is to reunite every child with their family. Most of
their foster children return to their birth families or extended family members. The goal for those in our foster/adoption program is that they will be successfully matched with a forever family and adopted. Teens in our residential programs return home, are emancipated as independent adults, or move to a transitional housing program. (Those who are referred by Mental Health or Probation must undergo an evaluation prior to determining next steps). Youth participating in our Family Preservation programs are not removed from their homes and remain with their biological families.
As things have not been going well in Southern Nevada for families .. with our economic crisis, the loss of
jobs and the stress it puts on families, Olive Crest Nevada has expanded our program to include what we call in the business "Family
Preservation" .. that really just means that we're here to support families, to help them grow and stay together, to
increase capacity.
