Relay for Life ... a family friendly, fun-filled day to benefit American Cancer Society Programs

You don't need to run on a relay team to be part of Relay for Life. It's actually a tremendously fun-filled day to be enjoyed and celebrated by your entire family. This week, Lark will be speaking with Tina Dobbs, Local Director for Relay for Life. They'll share the details of the event, how and why Relay for Life raises funds for American Cancer Society programs .. and of course, how to form your own team.

Resource for Nonprofits and Corporations:
Training for a World of Non Cash Gift Management

Our world is full of products, equipment and merchandise which is excess, unused, replaced, returned, out of season, traded in, off lease, blemished, out of spec, dented, wrecked, unsold and sometimes just in the way. Tony Guhr has become an expert in the field of non cash donation management. He currently provides training and support services for Nonprofit Organizations and business groups to teach them how to effectively solicit and convert corporate non-cash inventory donations.

The upside is that non-cash gifts are the largest part of the available assets of businesses, and are often repeating resources for gifts.

The downside is that these types of donations involve a few additional steps and careful management.

This Webcast is of special interest to:
Nonprofit Directors - Development Officers - Manufacturers - Distributors.

ALS of Nevada: Easing the Pain for Lou Gehrig's Disease Patients
" ...Some patients want to know what to expect, but some don't want to know. For those, eventually, someone in the family will call us because they need our help. The last thing we want to do is overwhelm these patients. Most of our patients end up sleeping in their wheelchair. When the day comes, that patient will run their whole life from that wheel chair, and they can put their communications devices on it. Many ALS patients make speeches and help raise public awareness. Even if they can't talk, they can use their communication devices to get their point across. Their minds are clear. They still have so much to share. They are our best advocates."

Meet Den the Pen: Touching the Lives of Others
"I was reading a book by Stephen Hawking, "A Brief History in Time," and when I got through reading the book, I thought, how is it that such an enormous mind can be trapped in an immovable body? The contrast was so stark to me that I called the local ALS chapter and .. became a volunteer .. being a respite worker .. a relief worker. That led me into it. What I found out is that ALS is to the body as Alzheimer's is to the mind. It's a very slow, horrible, observable, deterioration of a person ...

Some of the small things you can do go a long way .. whether it was going to the market, or when they needed a guy to move that china cabinet out of the dining room to move in a ventilator ... or mow the lawn. Doing those little things, small things, mean a great deal to the family." - Den the Pen from Webcast with Lark
