A Promise to Foster Kids ..
Child Focus Sibling Preservation Program

"Consistency isn't a word commonly used in relation to children in the foster care system. The only constant is the state of inconsistency.  Going to the same doctor, staying in a school for a full academic year, having a relationship with siblings, or living in the same house, with the same family, long enough to see two birthdays come and go are things many foster care children crave."  Source: View News 2003

And t
he story continues. In 2009, Child Focus has grown into a tremendously  meaningful resource for foster kids who move an average of 4.8 times.  It's tough.

Child Focus is committed to give these kids the tools they need.  Some of the kids served by Child Focus over the years, are now adults who volunteer with the organization.

Lark spoke to Denna Atkinson, Executive Director of Child Focus to find out more about the services Child Focus provides to over 3000 kids currently in foster care in Nevada.  One of their important goals is to preserve and support the relationship of siblings who have been separated in the foster care system.  Research shows in these cases, the sibling-child bond is often stronger than the parent-child bond. Sibling separation in foster care can add to an already bad situation. These kids are already traumatized as it is.  Child Focus is there to help them through.

"The Promise"  Mural on Water Street in Downtown Henderson:
Meet Ozzy Villate, Ozart Studios

Ozzy Villate of Ozart Studios has been getting a lot of press lately on the story behind his mural "Promise."  It graces the side of Rainbow Casino building on Water Street.
Read the recent article in Henderson View.

The art deco style of "The Promise" is just a sampling of Ozzy's incredibly diverse range of
artistic style.  We were delighted and quite impressed to look through his extensive portfolio of fine art, murals, faux finishes - marble pillars, walls, ceilings, fireplaces, exterior landscape murals.  What a talent .. a super nice guy too!
