I have a theory about the human mind.  A brain is like a computer.
It will only take so many facts, and then it goes on overload and explodes!

Before forging ahead, can we do a quick recap?

Lark's List is all about people, businesses and nonprofits helping each other.
Our site is developing into a resource designed to make helping easier.
When the site is completed, there will be a lot of information for you.

One of the features we're developing is a list of easy ways you can benefit
"the nonprofit you choose from our list."

Which nonprofit would you choose?

It helps to understand the heart of these organizations and the harsh realities faced
by the people they serve.  How has this organization changed their lives?  How has it  helped them through the tough times?  We're in awe of what we discovered.

Scroll down for a quick recap ...

Nevada Community Enrichment Program:
Support for Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors

It only takes a moment to sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI). In that moment, your life and family may be forever changed. Recovery is a long, painstaking journey. By five years post injury, there's an 80% divorce rate for couples where one of the partners has suffered a TBI.

The Nevada Community Enrichment Program (NCEP) provides essential services to many brain injury survivors and their families. Without their services, many survivors would require long-term medical care as well as institutionalization.

Child Focus
Support for Children in Foster Care

One of the many reasons children go into foster care is due to drug use of the parents. The trauma intensifies when they're separated from their siblings.

At
Child Focus, preserving the sibling bond for children in foster care is a priority.
They provide programs, resources and services that enrich the lives of Clark County children living in foster care and create opportunities for each child to develop the individual strengths and abilities to help prepare them for responsible adulthood.

Communities in Schools
Drop Out Prevention:

What if you came to school with a toothache, or hungry, or not able to see the chalkboard?  Most students who drop out of school
are dealing with multiple problems that become barriers to their education: poverty, unattended health needs, hunger, an unemployed parent or domestic violence.

Communities in Schools brings at-risk kids the help they need while they're at school.  Through campus-based programs and special projects, they create a network of volunteers, social services, businesses, and community resources that work together to break down barriers and help students succeed.
"These kids need to know someone cares about them. We put them in an environment where they have no doubt."   - Louise Helton, State Director

Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation
Serving Critically ill Children

With an average of 11 new diagnoses per week, Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation serves families and their children suffering from cancer, HIV/AIDS, sickle cell, renal disease, immunologic disorders and any critical or life-threatening illness.

On a personal level, President, Jeff Gordon explained to Lark that his goal is
"to recognize and fill the voids that exist in this community, so when a family comes to us with a new diagnosis, that we can jump into action and they know that they don't really have to talk to anybody else, that we can give them everything they need in all of those areas .. "  - Jeff Gordon, President/CEO  NVCCF.org

ALS of Nevada
Easing Pain for Patients with Lou Gehrig's Disease

ALS of Nevada is dedicated to providing the best care and service possible to those that have ALS until research efforts lead to the day when we find a cause and cure for Lou Gehrigís disease.

"... you see people in electric wheel chairs all over. Our patients usually end up sleeping in their wheel chairs. So they need to build that wheel chair so that when the day comes when that patient can't walk or talk they can run their whole environment with that wheelchair. .. and they can also put their communication devices on the wheelchair."  - Megan Testa, Executive Director, ALS of Nevada

Relay for Life:
Raising Funds for American Cancer Society

One in three people will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime.  The American Cancer Society Relay For Life® is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people across the country each year to celebrate the lives of those lost to the disease, and raise money to help fight it all right here in your community.
