Arizona Tile was very generous with the granite used for our countertops. The piece selected was a very hard to find granite, therefore more exclusive and expensive. The colors and movement in the veining is absolutely beautiful. There are hundreds of types of marbles and granite slabs available at the Arizona Tile Showroom. Facts to know when shopping for marble and granite:
The cost for marble and granite depends largely on how readily available they are. Tract home builders use readily available granite for two reasons:

1. They know they can get it in stock quickly.
2. To keep cost way down.

Exclusive Granite .. is more beautiful and more difficult to quarry. The area of the mountain rock where the marble or granite is found is called 'the vein'. Marbles and granites that are more difficult to find require a more labor intensive process to quarry. Slabs often come from places like Turkey or Italy. Some large suppliers like Arizona Tile often have exclusive granites that only they can offer, this is considered "exclusive" product.

For Countertops
When quarrying stone for a solid surface slab, they want to use the best product they can. The stone will be taken from the most desirable area that they will find the best product. They are looking for the least amount of impurities or fractures. The stone will have more veining and be more interesting with colors that are often more vibrant.

For Tile
Granite that is cut into tile is quarried from the bottom because it will ultimately be cut down for installation and the impurities can be cut out and wasted.

See It First!
When picking custom countertops it's very, very important that the homeowner, designer or contractor sees what they have selected prior to fabrication.

Small samples shown for selection purposes may have been quarried a year ago and are not a true indicator of the current stone available.

If the full slab is quarried 8 mos. later, for example, it may have very different colors and textures due to the effects of the earth's changes.

Choose Granite for Kitchens & Choose Marble for Baths
Granite is more often recommended for kitchen counters because it typically doesn't stain.

Wash oily compounds off granite promptly! If granite is in contact with oily residue compounds overnight, those products will often leave a mark on the granite that will more than likely go away within a week.

Acidic substances stain marble! Marble does stain, almost anything with acid will eat thru marble. This will invalidate the warranties of the marble if installed in a kitchen area. Select Marble for bath or alternative areas only.
